Role overview

This new role is a pivotal one for our highly successful Luxembourg office as it continues its strategic growth trajectory. The priority will be to work with the Luxembourg office partners and lawyers to develop an effective local expertise approach that leverages the support and resources available from K&E colleagues and relevant legal teams across Ashurst.

It requires an excellent technical and client-focused lawyer who is committed to supporting and championing quality, consistency, and legal excellence and who has the right motivation and skill set to develop and drive forward our Luxembourg office expertise in a dynamic and visibly impactful way for our lawyers and clients.

The successful candidate will co-ordinate and work in partnership with our specialist Corporate, Funds, Global Loans and Tax lawyers in the Luxembourg office to:

  • drive a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement;
  • develop and manage quality internal and client-facing legal content;
  • ensure information, resources and insights are easy to access;
  • develop and maintain standard documents, guidance and other know-how;
  • develop effective legal learning programmes for Ashurst lawyers and clients and support the development of junior lawyers with coaching
  • guide and contribute to client and industry facing thought leadership initiatives;
  • ensure Luxembourg lawyers have access to and know how to use relevant third party resources managed by the R&BI team;
  • ensure Luxembourg lawyers know about and have access to learning programmes managed by the L&OD team.

You will be joining an expert, dynamic, friendly and well-supported global community of expertise lawyers and other K&E specialists.

Responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Co-ordinate the development of the Luxembourg office’s expertise strategy and the development and implementation of an annual expertise plan to support the achievement of the Luxembourg office and the firm’s strategy.

Knowledge sharing tools and technology

  • Champion knowledge sharing across the Luxembourg office.
  • Work with the central Knowledge team to develop and maintain systems to facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with international expertise colleagues to share resources and best practice.
  • Identify, implement, test and champion tools and technology to support fee earner work.
  • Consider the impacts of developments in technology and AI on the Luxembourg office’s practices.

Thought leadership, client alerts and current awareness

  • Monitor, analyse and summarise legal, regulatory and industry developments for our partners, lawyers and clients.
  • Liaise with other offices to identify developments which may be relevant to, or provide opportunities for, the Luxembourg office.
  • Conduct horizon scanning to identify developments, issues and trends to help Ashurst and our clients stay ahead of emerging legal and regulatory issues.
  • Plan, coordinate and assist with thought leadership campaigns.
  • Prepare articles for the Ashurst website, LinkedIn, and external publications to inform clients of developments.
  • Help to devise and deliver high quality profile-raising activities such as boardroom lunches, webinars and external speaking opportunities for partners and senior team members.

Risk mitigation, consistency and efficiency

  • Research legal and market developments and, together with partners and specialist lawyers, develop coherent and appropriate policies and guidance.
  • Co-ordinate and contribute to the drafting and maintenance of standard documents to provide fee earners with the best starting point for their work.
  • Develop, collate, coordinate and update supporting guides, precedents and other Luxembourg know-how/resources, including by collaborating with K&E colleagues and relevant legal teams across Ashurst.

Legal learning and ‘on the job’ coaching

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Organise and contribute to the delivery of the Luxembourg office training programme that aligns with the offices needs and expertise plan.
  • Guide and support induction training for incoming junior lawyers and lateral hires.
  • Create engaging and relevant training materials that align with the Ashurst brand.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programmes and tailor them in response to feedback.
  • Mentor junior lawyers to develop high levels of technical excellence.

Help desk

  • Provide advice and support to lawyers at all levels.

Firmwide expertise initiatives

  • Participate in and contribute to firmwide and cross-practice expertise initiatives.

Local library and training co-ordination

  • Act as the Luxembourg office co-ordinator and link point for third party resources managed by the R&BI team.
  • Work in partnership with the Luxembourg office P&C manager as a local co-ordinator and link point for learning programmes managed by the L&OD team.

Skills and experience

Legal experience

  • Qualified in Luxembourg or another EU jurisdiction.
  • Technically excellent with abilities commensurate with a senior associate.
  • Experience of working in a similar expertise focused role in a professional services or institutional setting or a fee-earner looking to transition to an expertise lawyer role.
  • A range of experience, ideally including Corporate, Funds, Global Loans or Tax.
