What are the foundations to create a fundraising hub?

Luxembourg is a big office for Advent in Europe with over 60 people in Finance, Operations as well as an investment team already on the ground. Distribution was a natural addition especially in light of Brexit and the change in distribution rules to EEA investors. Our distribution team is global with offices in the US, UK and Europe, including Luxembourg.

The foundations to create a fundraising hub are first having the right team in place. A team that is, able to represent the Fund and to market it to the appropriate investors. To me, it is essential to develop the expertise of the internal Investor Relations team. These persons should be part of a in-house global team, which co-operates daily with other key functions of a GP, ie Compliance, Legal, Finance, Marketing and of course with the investment team . The other fundamental is the regulatory part. This is the main starting point to be able to fundraise and this should be taken into considerations from before the beginning until the end of the fundraising. In the past years, Luxembourg entities focused on Risks, Compliance and Finance. This is now time to further develop an IR focus and Luxembourg will become a significant fundraising hub.

What can we expect from the PE sector until year end

It’s been the busiest fundraising year in history. With funds coming back to market quicker than ever, it has become very crowded. We’d expect a slow down in fundraising with even the most successful GPs taking longer to raise their funds. With typical investors’ high performing portfolios maxing out, they are increasingly moving towards identifying new types of investors for developing a whole new supporter base.
Martine Kerschenmeyer
Director, Advent International Fund Manager

Private equity is at near-record levels in term of number and volume of transactions, but also in term of returns. However, there are challenges ahead. The world is faced with inflation at levels not seen in recent decades, central banks have begun to steadily increase interest rates and geopolitics introduces more fragility to the global economy. As private equity investors navigate the new economic reality, reshaping investment portfolios will be a priority. The private capital secondary market will be a key mechanism to facilitate these changes and we expect the secondary market to continue to grow rapidly.

Resilience of the assets since PE invests in real economy with a perspective to build and create value in several years Increasing concentration of the actors in the sector with synergies.
