Candidate Profile

To support the growth the Cinven office in Luxembourg and the setup of a new regulated AIFM in Luxembourg, we seek to hire an experienced individual in the field of risk management who is highly motivated, comfortable working autonomously, naturally curious and has demonstrated excellence in prior endeavours. This is a unique opportunity to join an agile and growing team, working with senior executives in a dynamic environment to contribute to the success of our buy out operations and work on numerous development projects.

Principal Responsibilities

As a member of the Luxembourg based Cinven AIFM, your role will be to maintain an effective risk management framework and processes for AIFs. This involves monitoring of risk levels and risk appetite of the private equity strategies as well as reviewing and adapting our processes to meet applicable regulatory requirements. You will work closely with, assist and report to the Conducting Officer in charge of Risk Management in Luxembourg including:

  • Assisting with the implementation of the risk management policy and risk management procedures in order to identify, measure, manage and monitor on an on-going basis all risks relevant to the Funds’ investment strategy to which the Funds are or may be exposed (Private Equity);
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and conducting of quantitative and qualitative risk analysis for market risks, credit risks, counterparty risks, liquidity risks and operational risks and relevant stress tests;
  • Setting up risk profiles for the respective alternative asset Funds;
  • Understanding of risk and performance drivers, monitoring of general market and factor risks across portfolios and highlighting of areas of concern proactively;
  • Provision of advice to the Board and the Management Committee in relation to the identification of the risk profile of each of the Funds;
  • Ensuring that the risk profiles of the respective Funds disclosed to investors are consistent with the risk appetite set by the Board;
  • Provision of periodic risk management reporting to the Board and the Management Committee with the monitoring of relevant risk indicators outlining potential actual or foreseeable breaches to the risk profiles of the respective Funds so as to ensure that prompt and appropriate action can be taken;
  • Developing and maintaining documentation pertaining to the Risk Management function such as risk management policy and risk management procedures, risk register, risk profiles;
  • Engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across various locations:
  • Partnering with relevant stakeholders to ensure that relevant risk measures are correctly estimated and aggregated in the portfolios;
  • Supporting the review and validation of the valuation of alternative assets (private equity).

Skills & Competencies

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering or related quantitative field;
  • 2 to 5 years’ professional experience in risk management / valuation in the Asset Management Industry such as investment fund management, investment banking and/or advisory / consultancy firm;
  • Relevant of experience in a closely related position that may include applying global macroeconomics, financial analysis, and risk modelling to forecast and evaluate risk;
  • A relevant industry recognized qualification as “FRM”, “PRM”, “CFA”, “CAIA” or similar would be beneficial;
  • Good experience in MS Excel and PowerPoint is a must (Excel VBA knowledge would be a plus).
  • Knowledge of the Luxembourg regulatory environment for alternative assets funds and market practices;
  • Operate basics in valuation methodologies such as e.g., earning multiple models, discounted cash flow models, income models, etc.;
  • Good understanding of multi-layer structures (SPVs, HoldCos) for alternative asset funds;
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills;
  • Strong self-starting, comprehension & problem-solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently while remaining a strong team player who works collaboratively;
  • Ability to interact clearly and efficiently with senior individuals and external counterparties;
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken) – French will be an advantage.
